A contact lens is a thin lens placed directly on the surface of the eye. Wearing a pair of contact lenses is extremely safe. However, one must not wear contacts for prolonged periods. Because they rest on the surface of the eye depriving the eyes of the required amount of oxygen, it may lead to adverse side effects. The harmful effects of wearing contact lenses can be avoided by simply adhering to the wearing schedule recommended by the doctor and giving the eyes a break by wearing glasses in between. Also keeping the contacts and its case clean cuts the risk of infection.
